About us

What is YAC?

yac_logoThe Young Archaeologists’ Club (YAC), part of the Council for British Archaeology (CBA), is a nationwide organisation for young people interested in archaeology. Run as a network of local clubs across the UK, it allows 8-16 year olds to get their hands mucky doing real archaeology.

“YAC’s vision is for all young people to have opportunities to be inspired and excited by archaeology, and to empower them to help shape its future.”

YAC also has a website and an e-newsletter to keep young people and interested adults up-to-date with archaeological news and activities.

Who are the Leicestershire YAC (LYAC)?

LYAC LogoThe Leicestershire Young Archaeologists’ Club (LYAC)  is one of a network of local YAC clubs that can be found across the UK. LYAC is a charitable organisation which is run by a team of volunteers who have strong interests in archaeology and local history, and enjoy working with people who are under 17 years of age.

LYAC is a well established organisation which has been running since 1996. We are an ever growing club, always welcoming new members to take part and providing opportunities for young adults to volunteer as branch assistants. Based in Leicester, we organise a wide range of activities across the surrounding county and region, from fieldwork (such as field walking and excavation) to tours of historical sites and re-enactments of historical periods.

Anyone under the age of 17 years of age can join LYAC, regardless of ability.  The only requirement is that you must be crazy about archaeology and history.

If you are interested please do not hesitate to contact the team on LeicestershireYAC@gmail.com
